ELDERLY MAN FOUND AFTER EXTENSIVE SEARCH

Teesdale & Weardale Search & Rescue Team were involved in a six hour search for an elderly man missing from home in the Annfield Plain area of County Durham today (Tuesday).

The man in his sixties was last seen at his home on Sunday teatime. He was reported missing to the Police late on Monday evening and a search began using mountain rescue search dogs in the early hours. Ten members of the Rescue team joined the search at first light assisted by two other search dogs and the Police helicopter.

Stephen Marrs Team spokesman said "We concentrated our search in the large areas of open land surrounding Annfield Plain and Catchgate. This area is split by the old Consett and Sunderland railway path. Mid afternoon we found the gentleman wandering along the path. Surprisingly after being out for two nights he was in remarkably good condition. He was suffering from the cold and was very hungry and thirsty. He was given juice and Jaffa cakes by Team members and he soon recovered".
