Major Search Continues for Missing Pensioner
Teesdale & Weardale Search & Rescue Team were one of three teams from
the North East who have been involved in the search for a missing elderly man
from Hilton near Appleby, Cumbria.
The 74 year old has been missing since
Wednesday from the small village which backs on to the Pennine hills. The search
has gone on since Wednesday evening. Today nine mountain rescue teams from the
North East, Cumbria, Scotland and RAF Teams from Leeming and Valley in North Wales
assisted by 2 Seaking helicopters searched much of the high fells leading to the
High Pennines.
Steve Owers spokesman for the Teesdale Team said "This
was one of the biggest searches in the North for a number of years. Over 100 mountain
rescue team members who are all volunteers and 6 search dogs were involved today
alone. For some of the teams this is the third day in a row which they have been
out searching. Unfortunately we found no sign of the gentleman today".
